DESCRIPTION

Studio ESEM (formerly Esem Projects) were invited to work with urban engagement consultancy Studio THI on a digital engagement campaign to connect with key urban leaders and change-makers. ESEM produced a series of unique audio-video portraits profiling the voices of change driving transformation across Australian cities.

During the Covid-19 lockdowns Studio THI invited ESEM to support the team in the design and delivery of a creative campaign centred around ideas of urban leadership in Australian cities.

With limitations around social distancing during this period, the team collaborated to identify and connect with key urban leaders remotely, and establish the context for a set of unique conversations. After lockdowns, ESEM lead a series of photographic portraits with participants, and created a set of audio-visual portraits capturing key insights from these conversations.

We explored a set of key questions with Studio THI and participants, built around the following themes:

  • Celebrating city making as changing making

  • Celebrating and reflecting on urban leadership and legacy - including the question of what makes a good ancestor

  • Creating a sense of shared community of practice

  • Building a body of unique content assets to support THI’s evolving brand while profiling city making practices in shaping lives.

Over 20 video portraits were created for the project, which can be explored in full at the Studio THI website resources for Voices for Change.
